George Grant "Music for Everyone"
George Grant has earned a reputation as "an adventurous musician and intrepid teacher." With emphasis on devotional music of ancient cultures and creative fusion of these influences into creative jazz, avant garde, and world music -- Mr. Grant has performed vocalese-chant and hand drums such as tabla, zarb, kanjira, mridangam, gatham, and frame drums with virtuoso musicians from America, Asia, and the Middle East. He regularly performs with classical, jazz, and modern dance ensembles.
Instead of training the "talented few" to perform for competitive careers, he helps non-professionals use music improvisation to let go of fear, reduce stress, surrender the ego, and realize their inner expressive Selves with confidence. All courses emphasize improvisation and listening, to develop self-expression, group communication, and leadership as life skills.
Grant has taught group improvisation as re-creation to a wide variety of populations all ages of public school children (including pre-school), mom/tot groups, university students (music and non-music majors), children and adults with disabilities, at-risk teens, adult corrections, elementary and music teachers, including Orff and Suzuki instructors, healing arts professionals, and spiritual groups.
A series of books titled George Grant's DRUM TALK, is being written by music therapist Dr. Bruce Saperston of Utah State University.
